Why
Perhaps you’re interested in working with children and young people in the future. Maybe you want to see what it’s like to be part of a missionary organisation. Or maybe you just want to serve God medium-term wherever the door opens. If any of that—or maybe you’ve another reason—resounds with you, then pray and think seriously about applying.
Who
- The programme is for young people aged 18-25.
- You’ll need to be a committed Christian, be able to sign the CEF Statement of Faith, and be attending a local church.
- You’ll need to have the right to live and volunteer in Northern Ireland.
- It would be ideal if you have attended a Summer Outreach Training Course—or were willing to do so the summer before—but this is not essential.
What
The internship will run for three days per week—on a voluntary basis—allowing you to spend the other days working part-time, pursuing some part-time study, or working in your church. You’ll spend one day per week (must be a Monday) in our National Office in Belfast, growing together as a team, planning projects and having some small input into the running of the office. You’ll get to see first-hand how each department in CEF works and have freedom to ask questions and learn from those who are engaged in ministry. The other two days you will be involved in active ministry in a local area, participate in training and work on some ongoing projects. The three strands which will run throughout the programme are training, personal development, and ministry experience.
When
The programme can be completed in one of two terms: September–December, or January–April. You can sign up for either (applications are currently open for Spring 2018). If you want to do a second term, you’ll be able to apply for that during your first (you cannot apply for two terms at once). There will be the option of doing your second term on secondment to a CEF ministry in the Republic of Ireland or around the world.
How
We don’t charge you for the internship, and since it’s voluntary you won’t receive a salary or allowance. We would encourage you to use a part-time job to pay for your expenses (such as transportation and food). You’ll also need to be able to get to the National Office in Belfast (easily accessed by train or bus) and your ministry area.
